Burlington to host Canada Celebrates FIFA World Cup tour

From Inside Halton, April 15, 2026.

Burlington will host a FIFA World Cup 2026 Canada Celebrates event at Spencer Smith Park on Thursday, July 9.

FIFA Canada released a list of 26 communities across the country that will host the one- or two-day event, featuring “live match viewings, football-themed activations, cultural programming, music, food, and moments of national pride” between June 11 and July 19. The event is expected to be free for the public to attend.

Canada Celebrates visits a total of 34 communities, including several pre-tournament events.

A quarterfinal World Cup match is scheduled in Boston at 4 p.m. on the day Burlington hosts the event.

Burlington City Council approved spending up to $160,000 for the event in December, and began negotiations with FIFA Canada to be placed on the list of stops.

“This includes the required activation fee to FIFA, along with local costs related to programming, site logistics, safety and security, and staffing resources to support delivery,” a city spokesperson said on April 10. “The City of Burlington is pleased to have been selected as a host community for the Canada Celebrates program.”

The cost will be funded with money from the city’s 2025 surplus, moved into the city’s Cultural Initiatives Reserve Fund.

City staff said Canada Celebrates is FIFA-led event, and details of event elements are being finalized with FIFA and are subject to FIFA’s approval.

“Information will be shared once confirmed and approved for release,” the city spokesperson stated in an email.

Times for the Burlington event, it’s actual cost, and specific features of the event were not available by deadline.

The closest other stops are scheduled for Mississauga July 1, Waterloo Region July 11, Vaughan July 15 and Brampton July 18 and 19.
